11 Tips You Need To Know Before Going To A Music Festival

It’s festival season finally! I am so excited for all the summer festivals coming up in Australia so I’ve put together a few of my festival tips which will hopefully help all you festival-goers out!

Comfortable shoes are a must

You are going to be on your feet all day and you don’t want to miss out because you had to sit down. Bring comfortable, preferably flat shoes that you don’t mind getting ruined/lost. The most important thing is that they are closed toe – you don’t want people stepping on your exposed toes in the mosh. And if it’s muddy, wear runners or gumboots. And bring at least 1 back up pair just in case!

Bring a light jacket

Bringing a light jacket or jumper that you can fit in your bag will be your lifesaver for the cooler nights. You don’t want to be freezing and miserable so bringing a back-up will help you out. Worst case scenario if you get cold, get into the mosh and you’ll warm up quickly!

Hat and sunglasses are essential

In the hot Australian sun you would be stupid to go to an all day festival without some sort of sun protection. You can even incorporate your protection into your outfit so you look good and are being sun smart at the same time.

When you get to your camping space, mark your territory

You most likely won’t have much room so when you are assigned your area, make sure you spread out and use it all or someone next to you will take your space!

Comfy but cute

This is always my go-to when figuring out what I’m wearing for festivals. You need to dress strategically because there is no point looking good if all you want is to get it off or have to keep readjusting every 10 minutes. Just remember, you are there to enjoy the music, your friends, and anything else the festival has to offer and if you’re comfortable, you’ll be able to enjoy yourself all day and night.

Bring portable chargers

If you’re like me, you will want to have your phone charged for the festival. So I recommend investing in a portable charger so you can be contactable during your time in the festival.

Plan your outfits before you go

Preparation is key with festival outfits. Not only will you know it will look good because you pre-planned it, you won’t be packing a bunch of unnecessary clothes. You don’t want to be sorting outfits out in your tent! Bring 1 different option for unexpected weather and you’re set!

Go light on the makeup

Wear makeup you know will look good after a day of sweating/rain/dust/dirt etc. and is easy to apply – especially if you’re camping, you don’t want to be doing a full face of makeup. I usually stick to face powder as my base and make it look nicer and more festival with eyeliner and glitter.

Take a bag that’s easy to hold

When you’re at the festival, you’ll need somewhere to hold all your stuff. Avoid really chunky bags or clutches you need to hold all day. I recommend a small, flat backpack, cross body bag or even a bumbag to keep all your essentials in.

Only pack non-perishable food

I know you will want to save money on food and not buy everything at the festival but you can only pack so much in eskis etc. If you are camping out in the middle of summer, pack sealed snack foods like biscuits or chips and plan to buy main meals.

You can shower!

People say that you can’t or won’t shower at festivals but keeping good hygiene is so important and not actually that hard! First of all, most, if not all, festival sites have showers for you to use. Yes, they might not be the best showers ever but at least you’ll be clean. And if your campsite is near a beach, go for a swim and shower at the beach showers! Don’t resort to the so-called ‘babywipe showers’.

Above all, just enjoy yourselves and be safe!
