Lisbon | Portugal

Following San Sebastian, we continued south to Portugal. The town is so bright and colourful, and has an incredibly relaxed atmosphere.

We took an overnight train with Trenhotel and I highly recommend avoiding this. It was old and rickety which made the ride very unenjoyable. I was very thankful to arrive in the beautiful city!

Lisbon is one of my favourite places I have ever travelled to. The town itself is just beautiful with the amazing coloured buildings and tiles everywhere you go. The shopping is great, and so is the nightlife. We stayed in Barrio Alto on a street which happened to be lined with restaurants which we definitely enjoyed.

You can’t go to Lisbon without having a bifana or two. The bifana is a traditional Portuguese sandwich served in little cafes all over Lisbon. It is filled with pork and you can add cheese or mustard (I recommend) and it is the best snack you could have. My favourite place to go was O Trevo.

We also climbed the Castelo de Saõ Jorge at dusk which was a beautiful way to see the whole of the city.

Lisbon has to be one of my favourite cities in Europe so I highly recommend a visit!

  1. Great post, I visited Lisbon last year and loved it! We visited the Castelo very early to avoid the masses. We were amazed at the long waiting lines when we came back. Same goes for the tourist tram 28, go early in the day!
