Annecy | France

Annecy is a gorgeous little town in the east of France, near the border of Switzerland and Italy. It is peaceful and incredibly picturesque. It is easily accessible by train, which is what we did coming from Milan.

The town of Annecy sits on the feet of the French Alps which you can see from all around the town. The Lac d’Annecy, or Lake of Annecy is a gorgeous lake right beneath the mountains. You can rent paddle boats or small boats to take out onto the lake!

It wouldn’t be a visit to France without some fondue and a visit to the Fromagerie. We grabbed some cheese, saucisson (a cured meat), a baguette, chocolate, and champagne, and had a beautiful picnic in the park next to the lake.

The Pont des Amours, or Lovers’ Bridge, is a bridge in the park that offers beautiful views of the Lake and mountains.

The town has gorgeous coloured buildings, canals, and small shops everywhere – it was lovely to stroll around the streets.

The Château d’Annecy is a small castle built in one of the canals in Annecy. It is such an interesting structure that now houses restaurants.

Annecy was a lovely, quiet stop on our whirlwind trip of Europe. Definitely worth a visit!

  1. Wow! You and I had very different experiences in Annecy. I don’t normally promote my blog in the comments section of other people’s blogs, but I’m curious what you think of my take on it. The post is called, “The Most Beautiful Place I’ve Ever Hated.” And I have to ask: WHEN did you go? What month? Quiet and peaceful were the last things Annecy was when I was there. I’d love to go back to the Annecy you visited.

    1. Very interesting that we had such different experiences! I went at the beginning of July so I think I missed the crowds of Bastille Day. It was very quiet when we went!
