Venice was one of my favourite places in Italy. I had heard mixed reviews about Venice being tourist-saturated but I found that it wasn’t any more than anywhere else in Europe.
We took the train to the Santa Lucia station and took one of the water busses from outside of the station. This is the best way to get from the train station to your accommodation – don’t take the water taxis! They are way overpriced.
A gondola ride is a must your first time in Venice. Although it sets you back 80 euros for half an hour, it is a great experience. We had a fantastic gondolier who pointed out a few interesting things along the way.
San Marco square is a bustling area with heaps of shops along all the winding alleyways. Basilica di San Marco was the gorgeous church in the square.
My thoughts on Venice were wholly positive. It feels like a resort island with shops and restaurants everywhere you go. It was a beautiful, relaxing few days, I highly recommend spending a few days in Venice!

You must’ve visited at the right time! I was just there in November and it was insanely crowded with tourists.
