I love trying new makeup products and finding the perfect ones for me but along the way I have run into some that just haven’t worked out. So I thought I’d share some of those that didn’t go so well for me – enjoy!
The POREfessional: Agent Zero Shine | Benefit
Let me start by saying that I love Benefit products, it’s actually kind of sad how much Benefit I have and use in my daily routine. I am always looking for products to mattify my skin as it can get oily throughout the day and thought that if anything would work, it would be this but I was unfortunately disappointed. I have seen some really good reviews of this but it didn’t seem to do anything for my skin, I may as well have not been wearing it.
Modernist Eyeshadow Palette Graphite in Exposure | Hourglass
I bought this eyeshadow palette after it was used on me for an event so I thought that it was a failsafe option – sadly it wasn’t. As it turned out, I believe that she mixed palettes and colours to achieve my look because any time I have tried to use it, it has never worked out. Basically, the whole palette lacks any sort of pigment. I have tried wetting the brush and packing so much product onto the brush and only the faintest colour showed up. I was so excited because the colours looked beautiful but unfortunately, it just doesn’t look the same on the eyes. So I recommend swatching before buying to not make the same mistake I did!
Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer | Maybelline
I had heard such good things about this concealer and picked it up in the lightest shade to use under my eyes as a brightening concealer. I found, however, that it was a really thick formula that was quite difficult to blend and it creased immediately, and the creases remained even after I set it. Not only did the formula not impress, it really didn’t brighten or conceal anything and I was just left with heavy, creased under-eyes. Not to mention the sponge applicator didn’t seem to be the most hygienic way to apply the concealer! Unfortunately this just didn’t work for me! (Unfortunately I had already thrown this out so I couldn’t take a pic of it!)
Essa 12 Piece Brush Set | Kryolan
This brush set has a lot of different brushes all in one so I thought that it would work as replacements for some of my existing brushes but I was really disappointed with the set. I was most in need of a powder brush but the brush sheds every time I use it, doesn’t pick up products and also is fraying at the edges as you can see in the picture. The eyeshadow brushes were also a let down and didn’t blend or apply product well at all. I will say though that the contour brush wasn’t bad but 1/10 brushes aren’t good odds!
Velour Liquid Lipstick (Drug Lord) | Jeffree Star Cosmetics
Everyone was raving about the Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks and I thought I would give it a go with a very odd choice of colour. I chose the white colour to try out something different and was quite disappointed by the lipstick. When I applied it, it was streaky and left patches on my lips. I tried to do two coats and it helped slightly with the coverage but just felt heavy and still looked streaky. I am aware that it is supposed to be worn with other lipsticks but even then, I wasn’t impressed when it was mixed. However, because it is such an unusual colour not really meant to be worn by itself I’m going to give it the benefit of the doubt!
What products have you tried that haven’t lived up to their hype? Let me know!

PS. Stay tuned for my holy grail products!
[Disclaimer: this is just my opinion, they may work perfectly for you! I love a lot of other products these brands make so nothing against the brands either – just these particular products didn’t work for me!]
I use that concealer but only because I hate to throw away things I purchase. I completely agree that the formula is far too thick. I mix it with another concealer to get the right coverage and brightness. Nice post 🙂 definitely helpful and I will keep this in mind when looking at makeup in the future!

That’s a great idea, it was such a shame to get rid of it!
